Celebrate the ” First Day Of Spring” on Sunday March 20th!
The celebration of Spring goes back to the Ancient Greeks when the eighth month amongst the Athenians, was sacred to Dionysos. It is so called “Anthesterion” because most things bloom (anthein) from the earth at this time. As the Greek year begins around September 1st, this would be the month of April. In Athens, as in other Ionic cities, there was a custom each Spring to celebrate ” The Feast of the Vine Flower”.
Their display of ranunculus and poppies at the Ranch Santa Fe Library is breathtaking . It is our first peek at the array of early spring bulbs emerging in the upcoming weeks.
